mechanism no.2: emergency

This artwork explores the phenomenon of computer simulations predicting the movement of the population in an emergency. The emergency simulation software is designed to examine the movement of people in different types of complex spaces. It also predicts the consequences of the movement - whether people live or die. Teams of experts are attempting to predict the movement trajectories of the population in current 'typical' emergency situations.Trying to control and understand something which is inherently difficult to predict as it involves so many loose parts. In some ways the software is used as a reassuring influence on the architects and designers who build future complex systems.
