I am interested in technologies for social
and economic development. In particular, I study new e-commerce, communication,
and system software that are appropriate and appropriable by the majority
world. I'm interested in systems that empower, enrich, and inter-connect
developing communities.
I'm taking a holistic approach to technology and development -- combining learning, health and wellness, and entertainment, with economic and business development. This approach integrates with activist field projects that are community centered. I am keenly interested in first-class technologies that are cost-appropriate for people who make less than two dollars a day.
I am Research Scientist with the MIT
Media Laboratory. My affiliations at the Lab are with the e-development
projects, the e-markets
Special Interest Group, and the Software
Agents group. I am also currently Research Fellow with the Center
for International Development at Harvard University.
I hold a Ph.D. from the MIT Media Lab under the supervision of Prof. Pattie Maes. ****An outdated curriculum vitae is here. |
