Narrative Navigation and the Multilinear Narrative Explanation Architecture Description of My Work Digital television provides opportunities for delivering "multilinear" narratives: stories which have the continuity of traditional narratives while considering the viewer as an active participant in the storytelling process. We are developing tools to assist producers, writers, and directors in the creation of multilinear stories that respond to viewer interests, generating plot structures around their connections to the story. The research looks at the relationship between narrative and interactivity, how to structure and organize content and multiple storylines, ways to organize the production process, and new interfaces for viewers to interact with a story in real-time.
