1.) The Rose Veranda

High Tea :

This is a very nice place to have high tea. Fine Chinese furniture decorated with fresh roses. You can easily sit there the whole afternoon.

Well, first you have to choose your kind of tea. The tea menu includes Chinese, Japanese and English tea leaves. You can find many kinds of fruit tea, like apricot, blueberry and orange. And if you find yourself having problem deciding what you should take, just choose their "ShangriLa Exclusive Medium Blend". Of course, there are also the "Heavy" and the "Light". Coffee and other hot & cold drinks are also available.

Food ? Well, basically, they have very nice Chinese items like the spring rolls, samosas, crab rolls (real ones !), curry puffs, spinach puffs (this one is just fine and excellent). Then there are the fried chicken wings as well. Also you will find cheese custards, biscuits and cookies.

Many kinds of sandwiches, like salmon (great !), tuna, ham, chicken, roast beef and vegetable. You can also add more cream or butter to the bread once you got them to your table. They also have smoked salmon if you find the salmon in the sandwich not sufficeint.

A few kinds of French pastries, like chocolate cake, chocolate cake with nuts (wallnut, I think) and cheese cakes. Five or more kinds of chocolates (great for kids).

The Chinese coloured and layered cakes (kuih lapis), various kinds of coconut desserts and a banana dessert. Lastly, the local fruits like papaya, star fruit and water melon.

There is also a mini grand piano there where now and then, a pianist will play popular tunes.

So, far this is the best place to have real high tea in Singapore.
