Bachelor of Science with Honours (Physics)

I chose a project which had a lot to do with acoustics and maybe even psyco-acoustics.

It was a mini project to study the 1/f spectrum of Chinese music and speech with an FFT spectrum analyser inspired by works done on Bach's first three Brandenburg concertos.

I analysed samples of Chinese music, operas, songs and speeches and found that almost all of them behaved as expected.

I used to crack jokes to my friends saying that if I cannot find the 1/f spectrum in their speeches, they must be talking rubbish !

During the project, I built a squaring circuit. It squares what ever it finds at the input to the output. The signal from a 0.1 - 10 kHz band pass filter went through the squaring circuit and out to a low pass filter (20 Hz). The final output went to the FFT analyser.

I finally got a second class upper division Honours degree.
