Users chat in ChatCircles; the local user is "media lab" (in red) and people located far from the local user show up as hollow circles. The semi-transparent, faded circles represent traces of people who have chatted on those spots before.

Here the local user is "bee" and both "Hope" and "kmaggie" are outside of bee's hearing range; so their circles grow as they chat but the text of their postings is not visible to bee.
