9/11 showed us were vulnerable. We are not immune to war, but rather part of the battleground. But 9/11 also showed us our our strength. That a city scared to death can also be courageous. We all can be heroes.
In 2002, the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority understood that an alert public is our most important asset [1]. We were given tools of agency. If you see something say something. Its a public service with international resonance. London, Tokyo, even New Jersey has its version.
The campaign reminds us that in the war against an invisible enemy, we are all responsible for peace. But peace cannot come from fear. Peace comes from compassion and understanding [2]. While safeguards are necessary, if left unchecked fear has a corrosive effect on society.
So if our government, and our media, are our humanity, we must.
